Buenos Aires enjoys a huge range of music. As one of Latin America’s most cosmopolitan cities, the sounds that ripple through its vibrant streets are influenced by nations all over the world. It could be the South American melodies of Cumbia, the European beats of house and techno, the African drum rhythms or something totally different. This range of music on offer is testament to Argentina’s variety of festivals. Every November the city is graced by 5 days of wonderful jazz at the Buenos Aires Jazz Festival. Thumping bass returns the same month with the house music of Creamfields festival. In October we are given a spectacular rock show at the Pepsi Music Festival.
Personal Music festival (or Personal Fest as they call it over here in Buenos Aires) is another large rock festival. Bands from across the globe flock to Personal Fest to cook up a weekend of ear-busting rock music. The festival accommodates all tastes in rock music; from hard rock to punk rock to good, old-fashioned Rock’n’Roll. The festival is named after its sponsor, the mobile phone company Personal and has, since it was first held in 2004, attracted over 55,000 to one event. A stellar line-up of rock bands is named each year at Personal Fest with acts that have included the Strokes, White Lies, Babasonicos, Catupecu Machu, Goldfrapp and Beady Eye.
This year the festival will be held on the weekend of the 12th and 13th of October at the G.E.B.A stadium in Palermo. It is a multi-use stadium that used to serve as the home of a host of football and rugby union teams as well as one of two stadiums that hosted the Copa America almost a century ago. Nowadays the large venue provides the perfect stomping ground for festivals and concerts and will be a first-rate spot to host Personal Fest.
So I have rambled on about the festival and festivals in general, but perhaps the most pressing question is who will be headlining this year?
Aerosmith: sometimes referred to as the ‘Bad Boys from Boston’, Aerosmith are seen as one of the quintessential American hard-rock bands. They are America’s best-selling rock band having sold more than 150 million albums throughout the world. They will be quite the treat for the Argentine rock addicts.
Also playing that night: Whitesnake, Juanse, Band of Skulls, Buckcherry
Muse: this very successful English rock band is famous for their dynamic and elaborate live performances and their fusion of genres to create songs that stem from the realms of progressive rock, space rock, alternative rock, electronica and symphonic rock. They are sure to round off the festival perfectly.
Also playing that night: Jane’s Addiction, Albert Hammond Jr., Miranda!, Airbag, Utopians, BE, Kashmir
