The ‘Secret’ Closed Door Restaurants of Buenos Aires

Imagine walking into a stranger’s home and sitting down for dinner. And rather than being pushed out by the residents, being treated like royalty and served a full course meal instead. Sounds weird, right? But this is a typical culinary experience in Buenos Aires. Known as “Restaurant  A puertas cerradas” ‘the closed-door restaurants’, there are chefs interspersed throughout the city who will willingly make an elaborate and delicious dinner for you and a couple of other strangers.

They will open the doors of their house and warmly welcome you in for a delightsome dinner shared over light banter and interesting conversation. You might even meet a couple of other foreigners as well. Although the dishes can range from traditional Argentine food to exotic and adventurous specialties depending on the chef, you can rest assured to have a culinary experience you won’t soon forget. Following are some best closed-doorrestaurants we recommend you try out.

Steaks By Luis

Perfect spot for an asado baptism: Luis makes you feel welcomed as if you were friends, explains it all for first time eaters and provides the familiar asado experience, seems like an intimate dinner party with a gourmet touch. It’s a five courses meal: starts with an Argentine picada (olives, cold meat, empanadas and morcilla bruschettas), followed by a traditional mixta salad, Argentine grilled starters (a little bit of everything) and a huge steak; dessert is the last course, international and local at the same time. All this goes paired with an amazing selection of wines, personally selected by Luis, the chef. You can choose your grilling point and they have vegetarian options.
