Celebrating its 41st anniversary, the Buenos Aires International Book Fair will once again open its doors to eager literary lovers from across the world. Originating in 1975, the Feria Internacional del Libro de Buenos Aires has become much more than an average book fair, but rather, in building on the success of each year’s edition, has come to be known as an important cultural event not only for Buenos Aires but also for the rest of the literary world.
Organized by the Fundación El Libro, a non-profit whose mission is the promotion of books and reading habits, the fair will occupy more than 45 thousand square meters of exhibition at the Rural Predio Ferial de Buenos Aires and will remain open for more than two weeks. Commonly called the ‘Rural’ for short, this exhibition center is one of the largest spaces for Buenos Aires events, especially annual ones like the International Book Fair.
The 2015 edition of the Buenos Aires International Book Fair will begin on April 23 and will run through May 11, offering spectators many opportunities to take part in the renowned fair. As in years past, the festival will once again host a famous figure to help inaugurate the fair. Roberto “Tito” Cossa, the famous Argentine author known for emblematic works of Argentine theater, will deliver the keynote address of the 2015 edition.
After the inauguration the first three days of the fair begin, which are dedicated to literary professionals, such as publishers, booksellers, distributors, agents and illustrators, who will be able to attend a number of workshops and seminars focusing on professional development. After the first three days the doors will open to the public, which is expected to outnumber one million guests, looking to interact with famous authors and acquire new works of literature from around the world.
In total the 41st edition of the fair will host exhibitors from more than 40 countries, a detail which speaks to the international aspect of the event. In addition, guests will find the material on display, available in a number of languages other than Spanish. Having acquired an honorable reputation over the course of its 40 year existence, the Buenos Aires International Book Fair anticipates another successful festival to mark the 40th anniversary. Including a large number of book readings, signings and literary workshops, this international festival promises to be an event for every type of guest.
