Amazing Photos in Patagonia

Dreaming of taking amazing photos in Argentine Patagonia? If you are an ardent lover of nature and are heading to Patagonia any time soon, chances are you already have your camera and tripod ready.

Spread across Argentina and Chile, the Patagonian region is home to stunning sunsets and sunrises, rich grasslands, gushing waterfalls, icy glaciers, and amazingly tall mountains.

However, it is also famous for its rugged terrain that might make it difficult for you find the best vantage points to take good pictures.

Here are some excellent tips for you to capture the best shots when in Patagonia:

1.    LOOKOUT FOR WIND AND WEATHER

In regions like Patagonia, wilderness is a given, coupled with unpredictable weather conditions. The light conditions may also fluctuate without warning, providing you with the opportunity for some extraordinary shots.

Head out with your photography kit sometime after sunrise and stay outdoors till a couple hours before sunset. Sudden weather changes are likely to result in rain, wind or even snow, creating an atmosphere that is too surreal, where the rapid storms keep crashing against the huge mountains. You definitely don’t want to miss out on that!

2.    TAKE TOP-NOTCH EQUIPMENT WITH YOU

Often times the camera doesn’t do justice to pictures and a place like Patagonia deserves to be captured in its truest form and beauty.

Make sure to have the right equipment and top-quality accessories. For instance, because Patagonia is rich with magnificent waterfalls, you need camera filters like Neutral density (ND) and Circular Polarising Lens (CPL) to capture such water elements.

3.    INCLUDE SHADOWS IN YOUR SHOTS

When it comes to capturing Mother Nature, we always strive towards getting soft lightning in our shots in order to avoid harsh shadows. However, with the kind of rough landscapes and dramatic glaciers that Patagonia has to offer, these dark shadows and drastic light effects can take your pictures to a whole new level.

4.     DON´T MISS OUT ON THE NIGHT SKY

Patagonia doesn’t only give you gorgeous golden skies in the day but also equally mesmerizing crystal clear night skies which are full of glowing stars. Head out with your kit late in the night and get that perfect night-time shot. If you are any lucky, you might even get a glimpse of the Fitz Roy in your pictures, with its soft peaks shining bright under the moonlight.

5.       CAPTURE DRAMATIC ACTION SHOTS

The wildlife in Patagonia simply cannot be ignored, especially when the animals are out on a run or grazing in the fields. Always have your camera ready and your ears sharp for a loud howl or an angry snicker, for you might just end up taking the perfect dramatic action shot.
