If you have just arrived in Argentina and are somewhat of a food freak, you have chosen good time to touch down in Buenos Aires. From the 16th – 29th of September Buenos Aires Food Week will return to the capital for the second time for another round of mouth-watering offers, after its very successful debut earlier this year.
40 top-end restaurants across the city will be offering special set menus at accessible prices and exclusive of drinks and tips. Lunches will be set at a price of AR $99 and dinners will be going for AR$ 169. Each meal is made up of 3 steps – starter, main and dessert – and there will be a selection of 2 or 3 options to choose from for each step.
There are similar editions of the Buenos Aires Food Week around the world in major cities that include New York, Milan, San Pablo as well as many others. The festival’s goal is to democratize access to haute-cuisine worldwide so that the general public are offered the opportunity to learn about first-rate restaurants and indulge in unique dishes at promotional prices.
Buenos Aires Food Week has this time been used to promote the charity Food Bank Foundation. Diners can opt to donate AR$1 to the foundation, a non-profit organisation that seeks to provide a bridge between the hungry and those desiring to work through an efficient and transparent channel that guarantees that your gift will reach those most in need. They manage food donations through systems of soup kitchens, canteens, nursing homes and schools to provide for over 88,000 people per day, of which 80% are children and adolescents.
All 40 of the restaurants named under Buenos Aires Food Week offer wonderful food to ensure your taste buds have a field day, yet we have picked out a few of our favourites;
Enter through a pair of 16ft brass doors to enjoy Casa Cruz and what is said to be one of Buenos Aires’ most impressive dining experiences. Indulge in ‘modern urban Argentine’ cuisine and feast on barbequed langoustine with a desert of traditional dulce de leche flan with coconut ice cream.
Aldo’s Vinoteca y Restoran
This is a unique restaurant within a winery within a hotel. Wine is the theme here, with over 500 labels of bottles decorating the walls of the interior. A simple but delicious menu offers mains of various Italian delicacies, from octopus risotto, to Brussels sprouts and goats cheese penne pasta to tomato and mozzarella gnocchi.
This New York-style restaurant is seeping with ambience with its high ceilings, soft lighting and tranquil tunes. Share a romantic dinner with a stand-out main course of lamb from Tierra del Fuego cooked twice and braised for 4 hours with couscous and grilled tomatoes.
Not many people know about Japanese-Peruvian food but this cool and classy restaurant offers a unique cuisine that, needless to say, comes with an extraordinary menu. The options are both fresh and creative with perhaps the most original dish being the salted beef wok with onions, coriander, tomatoes and soya sauce.
