Bariloche, on the southern shore of Lake Nahuel Huapi, was founded in 1898 and is the epi-center for exploring the Nahuel Huapi National Park. The town, surrounded by lakes and parks, is a favorite resort for skiers during the winter and hikers / mountaineers during the rest of the year. It is renowned for its chocolate industry as well as its traditional, wooden chalets perched upon a glacial moraine at the foot of Mount Otto.

Those who want peace and quiet, visit Bariloche during the low season (April to June), since international and Argentine tourists (as well as students) fill the town throughout much of the year.  And there is a good reason for this- Bariloche is beautiful and it has an active and cultural center. The town has excellent tourist facilities, including excellent restaurants, nightlife and shopping, and Bariloche also offers a wide range of activities for those who like fishing, hiking, cycling and water sports such as kayaking and kite surfing.

The nearby Llao Llao Forest provides some lovely walking trails.  The Circuito Chico offers a great day´s bike ride along Nahuel Huapi Lake and National Park.  Kayaking at Lake Nahuel Huapi is impressive and the nearby blue-green lagoons and waterfalls are incredible.  The Cerro Campanario (Campanario Mountain) offers some stunning views, and you can reach the top via the lift-chair or a solid morning hiking!  However one reaches the top, it is worth it.  The view from atop Mount Campanario was rated by National Geographic as one of the best 10 views in the world!

A Buenos Aires to Bariloche trip is roughly 1567km, so plan accordingly. With daily flights to Bariloche from Buenos Aires, traveling to Barlioche is easy.  As far as flight time goes; a flight from Buenos Aires to Bariloche takes approximately 2 Hours and 20 Minutes.

For those with more time on their hands, Long Distance Bus Travel is available from Buenos Aires to Bariloche. But remember, Argentina is the 8th largest country in the world and bus travel time From Buenos Aires to Bariloche is approximately 20 hours.  That said, be sure to get a “Cama” or “VIP Ejecutivo” bus for 180 degree flat bed .
