Argentina Food & Drinks: Fernet Tradition

Although CNN described it as the “World’s worst tasting liquor” it’s one of Argentineans favorites. Learn why and how to prepare it!

Argentina food and drinks, always in the international top list, will surprise you with this combination.

A country with italian roots, has taken from the european country many culinary traditions, like pasta, gelatto and pizza, but also this italian type of amaro, a bitter and aromatic spirit. Curiously here became so popular that the country now consumes more than 75% of all Fernet produced globally.

Initially Fernet was sold in pharmacies, but it soon bacame popular at the end of 1800’s when millions of italians arrived into the country.

The country now hosts the only Fernet production facility outside Milan — the Fratelli Branca distillery on the outskirts of Buenos Aires.

So, although we can’t say this is an Argenteean drink, Argentineans feel it 100% native, like other Argentina food (asado, dulce de leche and empanadas).

During your vacation it might happen that you will eat so much Argentina food that will need a digestive drink: get ready, that is the best moment for your first fernet. Good news for you! After second drink, you don’t taste it anymore.
